A Quick Note Before We Begin
If you’re receiving this, you likely subscribed to my previous newsletter, “Fueling Greatness”, or have very recently subscribed.
This isn’t a name change for novelty’s sake.
It’s a deliberate refocus — and an upgrade.
For some, this new direction will be exactly what they’ve been looking for.
For others, it may no longer be for them.
Both outcomes are OK.
What matters is clarity.
Why “Fueling Greatness” Became “Nutrition Authority”
Fueling Greatness served an important purpose.
It reflected my work in performance nutrition, elite sport, and applied practice.
But over time, both my work — and my audience — evolved.
Today, the consistent thread running through everything I do is this:
That’s what Nutrition Authority represents.
Not just nutrition.
Not just performance.
But decision-making, judgement, and mastery — from science to practice™.
This newsletter now sits at the centre of a wider ecosystem, including:
- My research and doctoral work on the evidence-to-practice gap
- My role as Founder of the IOPN
- My work mentoring and developing practitioners
- The Nutrition Authority Podcast (formerly We Do Science) – launching February
- The upcoming Nutrition Authority Mastermind
Who This Newsletter Is For
This newsletter is written specifically for:
- Sports nutritionists (qualified or in training)
- Nutrition-focused health & fitness professionals
- Coaches and practitioners who value evidence and nuance
- Students aspiring to work in Performance Nutrition
- Practitioners who want to become go-to specialists, not generalists
It is not written for:
- Quick tips, hacks, or “top 5” lists
- Dogmatic interpretations of research
- Those looking for certainty where nuance is required
If you care about thinking well, practising well, and building professional credibility, you’ll feel at home here.
What You’ll Get From This Newsletter (Every Week)
Each edition of Nutrition Authority is designed to deliver signal, not noise.
You can expect a blend of:
Evidence — Without Oversimplification
Key research, position stands, and concepts — interpreted properly, not reduced to soundbites.
Contextual Decision-Making
How evidence changes depending on the athlete, client, environment, constraints, and goals.
Applied Case Insight
Real scenarios from high-performance sport, education, and practice.
Practitioner Skill Development
Critical thinking, communication, reasoning, and professional judgement — the skills most courses don’t teach explicitly.
Career & Authority Building
How practitioners progress from competent → credible → sought-after.
Behind the Ecosystem
Occasional updates on:
- The Nutrition Authority Podcast
- The Nutrition Authority Mastermind
- IOPN education pathways for those not yet formally qualified
What Makes This Newsletter Different
Many newsletters share information.
This one is designed to develop practitioners.
My doctoral research — and my work through the IOPN — has consistently shown that the most significant gap in our field is not access to evidence, but:
- Poor interpretation
- Weak contextualisation
- Limited decision-making frameworks
- And underdeveloped practitioner judgement
Nutrition Authority exists to close that gap.
A Short Preview of What’s Coming
Evidence, Context & Practice
Why “optimal” recommendations often fail in the real world — and how expert practitioners actually make decisions.
Case Insight
The underfuelled athlete who “does everything right” — and why physiology alone never explains the full story.
Practitioner Skill
How to communicate evidence confidently without overwhelming clients or athletes.
Education Pathways
When short courses help — and when formal postgraduate training (such as the IOPN Diploma and MSc) is the right move.
A Note on Standards (And Trust)
I’m making a clear commitment with this newsletter:
That means:
- No filler
- No recycled content
- No hype without substance
If at any point it doesn’t meet that standard, you should unsubscribe — no hard feelings.
But if you stay, you can expect a body of work that reflects the same rigour, integrity, and applied focus that has defined my career in sports nutrition education.
One Last Thing
If you know a practitioner, coach, or aspiring sports nutritionist who would value this kind of thinking, I’d encourage you to share this newsletter with them.
And if you’re new here — welcome.
This is Issue 00.
The foundation.
The real work starts next week.
